
Robert V. Sypher, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Sypher obtained a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand and is a member of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association.
He is active in many professional and civic organizations - most recently the Greater Greensboro Society of Medicine’s Health Care Sharing Initiative as well as the United Way - developing volunteer medical services for the indigent.
Dr. Robert Sypher founded the Hand Center of Greensboro in 1983, as the first dedicated hand and upper extremity surgeon in Greensboro. Dr. Sypher completed medical school and internship at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and one year of specialized children’s orthopaedics at the A. I. DuPont Institute in Wilmington, Delaware, serving as Chief Resident for both programs. Preparation for a career in Upper Extremity Surgery and Rehabilitation was completed with a fellowship in Hand and Micro Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Sypher recruited the Triad’s first Certified Hand Therapists, creating, with his partners, the regions only dedicated center for comprehensive diagnosis, surgery and rehabilitation for any illness, arthritis, trauma or occupational injury of the upper extremity.
Dr. Sypher enjoys providing innovative care to all areas of illness and injury of the hand, elbow and shoulder with a particular interest in arthroscopic care. Other areas of interest include complex fractures, nerve predicaments, total shoulder replacements, arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder.
